Back Porch Classes: this isn’t your granddaughter’s school

If you have never had the

JOY of participating in our “Back Porch” classes

Seaside watercolor by Maggie Nevens, Sarasota artist.

this is NOT the “adult ed” or “college elective” you expect.

Our classes are full of fun, camaraderie, inspiration and personal growth, and we’re tickled to announce our first class for the 2012-2013 season:

Painting like Crazy

by the ever-popular artist Maggie Nevens. She will be teaching on-site on Thursday mornings,  from 10am to 12:30pm, on Thursday, October 25, November 1, November 8 and November 15. Take one class or take them all (it’s a better value that way!) and amaze and astound your family with your talent at your Thanksgiving gathering.

Each class starts with a lesson by Maggie either in the breezy shade of our back or front porches or in the air-conditioned Crocker Church, proceeds with an easy-to-follow demonstration, and includes individual help. We never have more than 12 in a class, so you’re assured of personal attention. Because of our value pricing, though, we must have at least five students, so grab those friends who always say “I’ve always wanted to learn….”

(Personally? The tropical scenery and historic creek, the kids on the playground, the tennis court gatherings, the reflections in the windows of the 130-year-old Bidwell-Wood House are enough inspiration to last a LIFETIME. Seriously. Just look up, load that brush, and go for it!)

The cost of these Back Porch Painting like Crazy classes is  $35 per morning. We do offer a discount when you sign up for all 4 or more sessions: $100 for the whole season, saving you $40! (We recommend that you use your savings to treat yourself, and maybe your new-found friends, to an after-class lunch with your fellow artists at our favorite neighborhood venue, The Broadway Bar.)

Do you fear commitment? Then sign up for a single class or two or three at $35 per half day session.

Where: The Historical Society of Sarasota County, 1260 12th Street, Sarasota, between Tamiami Trail (U.S. 41) and Cocoanut Avenue. Sign up: 941-364-9076; email hsosc@yahoo.com. Remember, classes will be topped at 12, so get your name in early. Materials list and further questions, contact Maggie at nmevens@verizon.net
