Everyone’s looking forward to Pirates & Pioneers Day on Saturday November 16, when there will be pirate fun for the whole family, from digging for doubloons to a Thieves’ Market and barbeque.

But pirates weren’t the fun-loving characters Hollywood and Walt Disney have made them out to be. Far from it. They were complex, driven, and a fascinating part of Western Hemisphere history.
