The City of Sarasota has proclaimed October 24 – 30, 2011, “John Hamilton Gillespie Week”. Events will feature the release of historian Jeff LaHurd‘s new book, John Hamilton Gillespie – The Scot Who Saved Sarasota, and we are pleased that Jeff will be signing his book at the DAR, our next-door neighbors in Pioneer Park on Tuesday October 25 under the auspices of the Owen Burns Celebration.

Begin your evening early at the Historical Society with our elegant yet affordable fund-raising soiree.

Enjoy a docent tour of our freshly-displayed buildings, a buffet dinner from our local historic restaurant the Broadway Bar, a browse through the Gift Shop, and conviviality and companionship with HS supporters on our beautiful Back Porch. We’ll welcome you from 4 to 6pm, and your $20 ticket supports the curation and upkeep of Sarasota’s historic buildings.
