Just in case you have some spare time this weekend, you might want to do a little…
housecleaning?
Yes, the Historical Society is inviting you to wipe off the cobwebs from some old possessions, sort through the attic and the spare room, uncover and de-clutter your personal history, and find some goodies to donate to our 2nd Designer Tag Sale.
This sale was a rousing success in 2010, and we’re looking for it to be bigger and better this year!
Local design studios are being asked to go through their storage and donate everything from furniture to fabrics for our sale. In addition to their wonderful donations, we’re looking to you, our greatest fans, to help us.
Here’s how you can help us right now:
- Gather together things around the house you no longer cherish. Try tackling one area of your home at a time, since we have some time before the November 17 sale.
- Ask friends and family to do the same. Doesn’t everyone love to declutter, especially for a good cause?
- If you are clutter-free in your home, that’s great! Perhaps you would like to make a modest monetary donation to help with the advertising costs. Just drop a check in the mail.
Here’s what happens next:
- We are happy to pick up your donations whenever you have them ready, or you can bring them to the first “Conversation at the Crocker” meeting on October 9 (see our full Calendar of Events.)
- We’ll be ready to put your name down for a small, 2- or 3-hour job to assist with the event. So keep November 15, 16, and 17 free, so you can pick a small job to do: arranging merchandise, pricing, selling, cashiering, helping customers load their vehicles.
- Talk up the event. Closer to the sale, we’ll have flyers for you to give to fellow club members, post in your community center, give to local businesses, etc.
Here’s what we are planning to sell:
- Distinctive home decor items: lamps, small furniture, throw pillows and area rugs
- Tabletop items and linens, ceramics
- Framed artwork and quality books
- Personal goods such as costume jewelry, small leather goods, handbags and scarves
And here are items we cannot turn into funds for the Historical Society:
- Clothing, shoes, giveaway tote bags
- Tools, kitchen appliances, electronics, videotapes, electronic games
- Outdated or damp-damaged books
- Textbooks, magazines, mass-market paperbacks, unframed artwork
and, don’t forget that Saturday is our big Shopping Day at Macy’s!!! Stop by the HSOSC tomorrow (Friday, August 24th) to pick up a 25% off Day Long Pass which will more than pay for itself as soon as you make your first purchase!!! They only cost $5.00 (donation to HSOSC) and you can use them on just about anything your heart desires, ALL DAY LONG…even on the already reduced bargains! See YOU there!!
What a good job to get started on, out in the garage, while waiting for the winds to start blowing!
