So why are Christmas carols

called “carols” and not just “songs”? Wikipedia has an interesting history of carols, which leads to just this tiny clue: “It is not clear whether the word carol derives from the French “carole” or the Latin “carula” meaning a circular dance.”

Maybe it’s because we’re all running around in circles this time of year?
